Jeff Talarigo is from Japan, but has local roots in Hawthorne where his mother resides. He will be reading from "The Pearl Diver" and signing books. The Pearl Diver is set in the 1940's postwar Japan and follows the harsh fate of a 19-year old Japanese pearl diver who is diagnosed with leprosy.
A pre-ordered copy of the book will be $13.50. These must be ordered by May 1st. The author will sign the books that evening. At the program the books will be $18.
A discussion of the book will be held on Thursday, June 24 at 6:30 p.m. at the library with Karen Jordan as discussion leader.
