How to use the LS2 PAC
2
To access the LS2 PAC, click on the link from the library home page.
3
The LS2 PAC opening page includes a book river of titles owned by the library.
4
Holding the mouse over a book shows the details of that book. Clicking on the cover will take you to the details of the book/movie.
5
Example of the details you get after clicking on the cover of a movie.
6
To return to the home screen click on the library name.
7
From the home screen, the search is a keyword search. Enter a search term and hit go to do the search.
8
Your results list will tell you the total number of titles with that keyword. It sorts by Relevance just like most search engines do. From here, you can also narrow your search using the blue-grey side bar.
9
Here, after clicking on books, the search now lists only print materials. You can see the criteria used and if you wish remove it by clicking the x next to the word book.
10
By clicking on the Collections side bar, you can also narrow your list by what collection the book can be found in. For example, if you are interested only in children’s story books about cats, you can choose the Easy Book collection.
11
Now there are two terms for narrowed criteria. Again, to remove any of them, you can click on the x beside the term.
12
Once you actually click on a book to view the details, the search term you used to find the book is automatically added as a tag. Tags help change the relevancy of a title, so that the next time someone uses the same search term, the book you clicked on will move higher in the list. Tags are added two ways, automatically if it was the first book clicked on after a search, or manually using the Add Tag link.
13
Note that you must be signed in to add a tag. In addition, the log in asks for User Name and Password. User Name is NOT your barcode, and Password is NOT your pin. The first time you log in via this version of the card catalog, you can create a user name and password to make it easier to access your account. If you have not yet set that up, click on the link to enter your library credentials.
14
Clicking the Enter Library Credentials link changes what is asked for to Library ID (your barcode) and PIN (default is last 4 digits of your barcode which you should change the first time you log in to your account.)
15
The first time you log in it will ask you if you want to set up a user name and password. To do so, click Yes.
16
Type in your desired user name and password, plus your current Pin and click Save. Note that you cannot change your PIN in this version of the catalog. To change your PIN you must log in to the classic version of the catalog.
17
Once you are logged in you can manually add a tag to the book. Just type it into the box and click the +. Click Close, which is under the Log Off link, to go back to your list.
18
Across the bottom of the page you will see My Lists, My Saved Searches, and My Account.
19
Clicking on My Account brings up a screen where you can see what you have out, renew it, and gives you the option to change your password or print the list. You also have a show history link at the bottom of the screen.
20
At the top of the screen is a summary telling you how many items you have out, and if you have any holds or fines.
21
To close this screen, click the small x in the upper corner that says Close Drawer when you hover the mouse pointer over it.
22
The search box at the top is a keyword search. To use narrow your search by using And, Or, or Not, type the operator in all caps as shown.
23
Only 7 titles displayed that have both Cats and Rats in the record, and you can see the book tagged with those two terms is at the top of the list.
24
To save the search, click Save Search.
25
It will ask you for a name for the search, and will insert the search criteria you used to find these materials. Click the + to confirm the name and saved it to My Saved Searches.
26
To create a list of books across multiple searches, or to only save selected titles from a search, place a check in the box at the end of the title. Once you have selected all the titles you wish saved into a list, click the + at the top of the listing.
27
Clicking the + allows you to create a new list, or add the selected titles to an old list. Click Create new list to do so.
28
Type a name for your list and click the + to accept it.
29
To view any saved searches, click on the My Saved Searches at the bottom of the screen. It will show you all the searches you have saved, and allow you to re-run these searches at any time by clicking on the name of the list.
30
To delete a search, click the Remove link.
31
By clicking on My Lists you can also see any lists you have created. To choose a list, click on it from the name list. Each name has the number of items in that list in parenthesis after the name.
32
From here you can remove individual titles by clicking the Remove link after the title, or remove the list entirely by clicking the Remove List link at the bottom of the screen.
33
In addition to the regular search there is a “display case” of books. There are 3 types of display: a list created by the library to highlight books based on a theme, a list of New York Times bestsellers owned by the library, and a box showing new titles.
34
Just click on the tab name to change which list is currently active. To see the status/call number of a book, hover over the cover image. To see details about it, click on the cover, just as you would with the book river.
35
If the book you want is out, you can place a request on it. To do so, click the Request link from the book detail screen. If you are logged in, you will get a message stating Request places successfully. Otherwise you will be requested to log in.
36
On the My Account tab, you can see there is now 1 request listed. To see the request, click the Requests link.
37
From here, you can see where you are in the list for that material, and can also suspend a request (temporarily remove yourself from the hold list) or cancel the request.
38
Always make sure you Log Off before leaving the computer by clicking the Log Off link.
